A short documentary film explores the creative process of 29 Jersey City high school and college students!

HEROES OF THE WORLD Short Documentary Film directed by Duda Penteado and produced by Unshakeable Productions explores the creative process of 29 Jersey City high school and college students from The Jersey City Summer Youth Mural Arts Program 2019 who created a 200-foot long MURAL located at 1 Ocean Avenue in the Greenville neighborhood of Jersey City.

In working with fine artist Duda Penteado and Catherine Hart, the selected group art - students reflected on the importance of today's heroes to create a MURAL with many trailblazer personalities and historical figures (Fela Kuti, Helen Keller, Ai Wei Wei, Red Cloud, Florence Nightingale, Oprah Winfrey, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Frida Kalho, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Malcolm X, Nelson Mandela, among many others. ) highlighting key moments of our local and global history. This project is also part of the Jersey City Mural Arts Program (JCMAP), Mayor Fulop’s initiative created in 2013 as part of the city’s anti-graffiti efforts which has so far resulted in over 140 large-scale murals painted throughout the city by a mix of local, national and international artists.

The Jersey City Summer Youth Mural Arts Program (JCSYMAP) also aims to promote interdisciplinary art history education as well as provide opportunities for young people to engage in the interactive processes inherent in the production of public art. This year of 2019 the research field trip was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York City. In addition to that, the art - students worked in small teams and where given step-by-step instruction on public art techniques, including concept development, surface preparation, design enlargement, paint application, and preservation techniques.
