When 16-year-old city girl Alex is thrust into the world of FitzGerald Farm: A Compassionate Place for Farming, she finds there ain’t a whole lotta compassion flowing through the owners… toward their fellow humans anyway. But the animals? They treat the animals like gold. With the guidance of Paulie, the fitness-enthusiast pig and Bethany, the farm’s “breastiest bovine,” Alex learns how to survive this new land full of manual labor and “sad old people.” That is until Phil, a puzzling USDA worker, arrives and unravels all her progress with his processed sugars and pent-up pain.
